Visual impairment treatment

From ChemWiki

It has been shown that the amount of endogenous melatonin secreted by the pineal gland is dependent on the amount of light on the retina. Those suffering from visual impairment may not perceive changes in light levels accurately. This may lead to sleep disorders. It was shown that when melatonin was given to persons both with and without a visual impairment, the former seemed to respond extremely well with improved sleeping patters, while the latter showed no response.
