3D Molecular model display in Powerpoint 2007

  1. Go to Winfiles/Accelrys-DS-Viewer and install the two programs located in that directory. You can also get them direct from here and here.
  2. Get the installation instructions from here. Ignore the first half (which explains how to load a Web page into Powerpoint) and scroll down about half way to get the DS-Viewer instructions.
  3. Go to your H: drive and put all the coordinate files into a folder there.
  4. Note carefully the very arcane mechanism for loading a molecule into the Powerpoint slide (this can be CIF, ie a crystal structure, or any other common modelling formats. I suspect it might also handle vibrations, etc), and the fact that it only becomes rotatable when you play the slide show (and not before).
  5. If you want to apply various styles to the molecule, you can do so in the slide show itself, not the editing preamble. Right mouse click to set them.
  6. You can now load the slideshow in e.g. the Pippard theatre directly from your H: drive. Do not attempt to move the files to eg the desktop or other. the absolute path of each coordinate file is embedded into the Powerpoint and the slide show will not work if you change the locations of the files away from that used to build the slide.
