Mod:linux:findchemprog

In Chemistry there is large set of software on a central server that is available to the Linux machines in the department. This is referred to around the department as Opt Chemistry as on most Linux machines it is found in the directory /opt/chemistry

These laptops have been designed for use off-line, and hence don't have access to this shared set of programs. Each laptop has it's own copy of a subset of these programs which will be used during the Lab.

In a Terminal (Found in Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal) window, type the following commands:

cd /opt/chemistry
ls -l

You should see 5 or 6 directories that refer to specific pieces of software. If you get any error messages about /opt/chemistry not being found, please take your laptop back to the ICT Support Team, who may have to reinstall it to get the software back.
