Epilepsy treatment

From ChemWiki

Melatonin has a positive effect on those suffering from epilepsy. This is because melatonin inhibits glutamate receptors and hence plays a neuro-protecting role. It is also a known anti oxidant and therefore destroys many toxic free radicals that are created during a seizure. Also, epilepsy can be heightened through lack of sleep. Since melatonin can cure sleeping disorders, it follows that it will also help to reduce the severity and frequency of epileptic fits. It also has anticonvulsant properties.
