Syringes

Based on previous incidents reported to the Health & Safety committee, the Department has taken up a policy that all syringes to be used with needles should have a 'luer lock'. This prevents the needle becoming detached when depressing the plunger and is a critical safety feature in keeping hazardous chemicals contained, especially when dealing with pyrophorics.

Containers

Disposal containers for sharps need to meet certain requirements as this waste-stream is treated as a potential bio-hazard. Due to their 'sharp' nature they naturally need solid containers with firmly closing lids, we also require a handle or other point of attachment for the unique ID cable-tie. VWR only stock sharps bins as approved by the Department. Please do not circumvent this by ordering unapproved items from other suppliers.
