Talk:Mod:Second Year Modelling Workshop

From ChemWiki

Use this page to add coments/questions which are too speculative to go into the main pages. --Rzepa 07:06, 5 June 2006 (bst)

Added Jmol models to some sections to give the students a preview of what they should be getting themselves--Rzepa 08:49, 11 June 2006 (bst)

A Bit more controversial. Added the wiki table format to organise the page a bit better. the effect is cleaner, but the code is more obscure. That could frighten the punters away! One senses the wiki is somewhat schizophrenic, forever trying to balance the need to be simple, with the urge to do something fancy and complicated!--Rzepa 08:49, 11 June 2006 (bst)

Here is a stimulating view from another e-learning expert about the use of social software such as the wiki: Steve Warburton. The tyranny of VLEs is slowly being subverted by the relentless rise of Web 2.0 technologies and the inevitable leak of social software into educational settings which is disrupting the normalisation of linear content and assessment course delivery modes.--Rzepa 13:17, 15 June 2006 (bst)

Another point of view by Rodney Reynolds: With virtual learning environments the question becomes how do you teach that participation is content when students believe that content is not dependent upon what they do, but that it is ‘out there’ and abstract and to be imparted by the instructor.--Rzepa 13:17, 15 June 2006 (bst)

Something which continually proves difficult is to create a joined-up course, where the student can leap from one idea and context, to another idea (same context) in a different area. A fancy name for this is the Semantic Web. Implementing such a concept in this workshop is an interesting project. If anyone wants to help, go read first. --Rzepa 12:25, 22 June 2006 (bst)
